Pickup Hit Semi Head-On

KSAL Staff - April 1, 2016 11:39 am

A head-on collision involving a semi and pickup truck south of Salina Friday morning sent a Lawrence man to the hospital.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 56-year-old Randall Shaffer of Lawrence was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger, headed north on US 81 Highway. He went left of center and struck an oncoming 1986 Kenworth truck pulling a trailer head-on.

Shaffer’s truck ended up on its side, and he was trapped in it. After being freed by first responders he was transported¬† by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

The patrol says that both drivers were buckled up.

The crash happened at 8:47 Friday morning, in 4000 block of Old US 81 Highway about a half mile south of the Salina City limits.

I hope the semi tractor driver is cited for “pulling a trailer head-on” instead of having the trailer behind. Salina English teachers must be pulling their hair out after reading this brilliantly written news report
