Staff, students and alumni from St. John’s Military School are gearing up for another Muleskinner Scholarship Golf Tournament next week.
St. John’s President Andy England tells KSAL News that the event grew out of an annual fundraising dinner back in the late 1960’s and morphed several times to become a community wide event, “We enjoy the opportunity to host Salinans and to get people who have supported us for so long into the tournament,” he said.
England noted last year’s event raised over $80,000 to help supplement the cost of tuition for qualifying students at the private boarding school that was established in 1887.
This year St. John’s is raising the bar and hoping to raise over $100,000 in donations during the golf tournament and auction.
“It’s a chance to share fellowship, talk about the mission of St. John’s and allow everybody’s small contribution to be pooled to make a huge difference in a lot of kid’s lives,” England said.
The Muleskinner Scholarship Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, September 25th at the Salina Country Club. Single players and teams of four can still sign up by contacting St. John’s at 785-309-5422 or online at SJMS.org
