UPDATE: Officer Involved Shooting Near Canton

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer involved shooting in McPherson County.

According to the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office, at 10:22 Tuesday night two deputies responded to a home south of Canton at 2663 Dakota Road as part of an investigation.

As the deputies approached, they saw a man standing near a garage pointing a shotgun at them. The man was told several time to put the gun down. Shots were fired at him, striking him once.

The man was transported by EMS to the hospital. His condition was not immediately known. Neither deputy was hurt.

KWCH TV in Wichita is reporting that A McPherson County Sheriff’s deputy shot a man near Canton.

The sheriff’s office reported to the TV station that two deputies were following up on a battery call when a man came out of a garage and pointed a shotgun at one of the deputies. The other deputy shot the suspect.

The man was taken to the hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

The deputies were not hurt.

As per standard procedure  they are expected to be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
