Ice Part of Injury Crashes

Saline County Sheriff’s deputies worked two injury crashes over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

According to Sheriff Glen Kocahnowski, officers responded to 10 slide off noninjury accidents – plus two crashes where occupants and drivers were hurt.

Deputies report that 51-year-old Diana Thompson broke her left kneecap in a two vehicle crash on Friday morning just before 11am on K4 Highway and Woodward Road.

Officers say Thompson was eastbound when her 2004 Ford Taurus slid into the westbound lane and hit a semi truck driven by Michael Abbott of Council Bluff, Iowa. Abbot was not hurt. Both vehicles had major damage.

Earlier on Friday at about 9:35am, deputies responded to a single vehicle car crash on Falun Road and Hohneck Road after a 1999 Chevy Suburban rolled into the ditch.

Driver, Scotty Phillips told deputies a strong gust of wind hit the car and he lost control on the ice. His passenger, 31-year-old Heather Phillips was transported to Salina Regional Health Center with a possible broken arm.
