High Lead Levels Topic of Tuesday Meeting

Officials will offer more details Tuesday evening into an investigation of elevated lead levels in multiple children in Salina. Elevated blood lead levels in over two-dozen Salina children have prompted an investigation by state officials, and the Tuesday meeting..

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will hold a public information session at 6:30 p.m. at the Salina Community Theatre.

KDHE staff will discuss and take questions about the investigation that is beginning into the elevated blood levels in about 30 Saline County children. Staff will present plans to determine the cause or causes of the elevated blood lead levels and provide information on how to prevent lead exposure.

With 32 testing above the acceptable level, I feel it would be a wisely gathered statistic to determine their source of daily drinking water. Well? City? Filter? It would help the rest of the community, while determinations are being made, to avoid their own possible contamination.
