Fair Housing on KSAL

Rights of renters and educating landlords is the focus of an event coming up next week in Salina.
“Fair housing is important. A lot of people, and we have a lot of renters and most communities do – but they don’t understand their rights,” said Salina City Manager Jason Gage.
Gage joined in on the KSAL Morning News Tuesday with a look at the upcoming Annual Fair Housing Seminar on Friday, April 22nd at the Webster Conference Center.
Gage shared that most of the time the rental environment is positive but can provide challenges.
“Every so often it isn’t so good and there are certain protected class areas and they may not be aware of those. And it’s understanding your rights if you rent.”
Gage encouraged property owners to take advantage of the seminar next week.
“Quite honestly it’s about educating the landlord as well. Because there are so many laws out there we don’t know what they all are and stumble into things and make mistakes we didn’t intend to. It’s about helping them to know where they need to be.”
According to the City of Salina’s website the registration fee for the event is $15 and includes lunch. The seminar is April 22 from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
