Bicyclist Hit By Truck

KSAL Staff - August 26, 2015 11:36 am

First responders prepare to transport Ashley McCall-Allen to the hospital.

A  woman crossing a downtown Salina street on a bicycle was hit by a truck early Wednesday morning.

Salina Master Patrol Officer Rande Repp told KSAL News at the scene that 25-year-old Ashley McCall-Allen of Salina was on a bicycle, crossing the street in a crosswalk at the corner of Santa Fe and Iron. She was hit by a small pickup truck driven by 82-year-old Henry Koster of Concordia.

Repp says that Koster was making a right-hand turn as  McCall-Allen was crossing the street, and the truck and bike collided.

McCall-Allen was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident happened at around 10:45 Wednesday morning, at the corner of Santa Fe and Iron in Downtown Salina.

Henry Koster discusses with Salina Police Officer Andrew Meek how the accident happened.

It used to be you had to get off your bike to cross the street at a stop sign or traffic signal has that changed? Seems to me if Salina wants special lanes for bike riders they need to come up with regulations to govern do’s and don’t for those riding bikes.

What does it matter if she was walking her bike across or if she was riding it. He still turned into her and hit her. Maybe people should start paying attention.
