The Saline County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspected case of arson after more than 80 round hay bales are burned.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski tells KSAL News that Rural Fire Department #1 was dispatched to a property near Donmyer Road and E. Mentor Road at 1:47am Sunday.

Fire crews found 82 round bales of hay engulfed in flames and signs nearby that the blaze had been intentionally set.

Deputies say the bales were owned by Dennis Schwartz of Carlton, Kansas.

Total loss is listed at $16,400.
