1 dead in weigh station accident near Olathe

Associated Press - February 3, 2014 3:51 am

One person has been killed on the off ramp from Interstate 35 to a northeast Kansas weigh station.

The Kansas City Star reports that three-vehicle accident happened Friday night a few miles south of Olathe. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the victim and another person were standing between two parked tractor-trailers when a third rig came onto the icy ramp and lost control.

The out-of-control truck’s trailer struck one of the parked truck’s trailers. The victim then became pinned between the two parked tractor-trailers.

Prayer’s to the family! This is really sad. Anyone know if the scales were open or closed? I hate it when road conditions are bad and the scales are open. A lot of times the main travel lanes will be clear but the off ramp to the scales will be a sheet of ice. I personal feel when that is the case they should remain closed until they can clear the ice and snow for safety.
