A water main replacement project in Salina is set to soon begin.

Salina City Commissioners Monday approved a bid by Diehl Enterprises in the amount of $2,059,778 with a $102,989 (5%) construction contingency for a total project authorization not to exceed $2,162,767.

Construction for the project is scheduled to be substantially completed within 365 days, and final completion within 395 days, from the Notice to Proceed.

The Diehl bid was the lowest by $244,794, with completion in 395 days. The second lowest bid, by Nowak Construction of Goddard, has a 365 day completion date.

According to the City, Diehl has completed projects for the City, including demolition projects, the Debris Removal from the Smoky Hill River in Bill Burke Park, and infrastructure for the Magnolia Hills No. 3 subdivision. Their work has either met or exceeded staff’s expectations.

Necessary supplies will take about 30 days to acquire, and should begin in October.
