Storms Drop Significant Hail

Severe thunderstorms that rolled across Central Kansas Tuesday night dropped heavy rain, and in some areas significant hail.

Some of the most intense hail was to the east of Salina in the New Cambria area, where hail covered the ground. Significant hail also pounded portions of Southern Saline County, into Northern McPherson County. Large hail was reported in the Lindsborg area, and hail covered the ground in the Bridgeport area as well.

Portions of Interstate 135 were totally covered with hail, making for hazardous driving.    Enough hail covered the ground that fog was produced in some areas.

KSAL Spotter Henry Diehl encountered numerous areas of hail, with some of it up to the size of golf balls.

Along with the hail, heavy rain fell across the area as well. Salina received 1.7 inches of rain.

More rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast daily through the weekend.
