UPDATE: Tornado Tears Through Kansas Town

A tornado which touched down late Tuesday afternoon in a Kansas community is rated an EF-3 by the National Weather Service, with wind up to 140 MPH.

The tornado in the Pottawatomie County community of Westmoreland killedone person and injuring at least three others. The fatality was someone in a mobile home.

The tornado touched down approximately 1.5 miles southwest of Westmoreland and traveled through the city causing significant damage to homes along a 50-100 yard wide path. It was on the ground for 8 minutes. The storm destroyed at least 22 houses and damaged 13 others.

Tornadoes also touched down down in Nemaha and Jefferson Counties on Tuesday.

A tornado struck Westmoreland yesterday afternoon destroying at least 22 homes and causing extensive damage.

Three other people in Westmoreland were hospitalized with injuries suffered during the storm.
