Winifred “Winnie” Mae Woolcock

Winifred “Winnie” Mae Woolcock, 91 years of age, of Hayward, California passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley, California. She was born on May 9, 1934, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Lester and Ella Bernice (Hosman) Cummings.

Winnie grew up in Avard, Oklahoma in a home full of music and enjoyed singing with her musical family on the porch. Winnie graduated from high school Avard and attending Business Collage in Wichita, Kansas. She had a long career in bookkeeping and payroll. Winnie retired from Mervyn’s Payroll Department after 21 years of service in California.

Winnie raised her three children in Clearwater, Kansas. In 1976 she relocated to California. In July 1977 Winnie and Mel were united in marriage for 43 years. The two spent their golden years traveling across the US five times, Canada, and Hawaii. Winnie was a member of The Good Sam’s Club traveling through the states in their travel trailer.

Winnie loved to write poetry, craft, and travel. She collected teacups & displayed them with pride with a story behind each one. Winnie was an avid painter and blessed family with her artwork. Winnie has created many beautiful wedding flowers for family weddings, special décor for family homes, crocheted baby blankets, quilting, and many more items that will be treasured by all. Winnie was known for her beautiful flower garden and her keen sense of interior design. Winnie enjoyed time with her family, watching movies, and telling jokes that make you laugh till you cry or pee your pants.

Winnie is survived by her children, Jonila (Tom) Hamel of Clyde, KS, Ronald (Connie) Murray of Wichita, KS, and Devona Leonard of Hayward, CA; granddaughters, Amy (Andy) Asch, Clyde, KS, Octavia (Shawn) Newton, Clyde, KS, and Stephanie (Ryan) Ramsey, Warwick, NY; grandsons, Josh Murray, Clarendon, Texas, and Jonathon Murray, Salina, KS; great-grandchildren, Amber (Garrett) Pounds, Dustin (Danielle) Williams, Brendon Asch, Blake Avery, Trevor Avery, Bailey Avery, Michael Newton, Jacob Newton, Kelsey Jones, Brody Murray, Emery Murray, Kason Murray, and Kallen Murray.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Berniece Cummings; her spouse, Melvin Woolcock; siblings, Jean Murphy, Max Cummings, Gary Cummings, and Carl Cummings and great grandson, Gunner Murray.

Visitation will be held from 10 am until service at 11 am on Saturday morning of March 7th, 2026 with family receiving friends at Chaput Mortuary.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 7th at 11am at the Chaput Mortuary, Clyde, Kansas with Celebrant Samantha Stensaas officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Clyde, Kansas.
