Wanda Leigh Davenport

Wanda Leigh Davenport, age 88, passed away at the Hospice House in Hutchinson on Jan. 14, 2019. She was born on July 14, 1930 in Enid, OK to Leonard A. & Millie M. (Decker) Maphet.

She graduated from Enid High School in 1948 and Phillips University in 1952. Wanda married Melvin R. Davenport on August 17, 1951. After moving to Concordia in 1971, she worked at the Concordia Middle School as a library aide for 22 years. Wanda was a member of the First Christian Church where she served as choir director, was a member of Chapter AO of P.E.O., Concordia Music Club, Ophel Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, and served on the board of directors of the Concordia Concert Association.

Wanda is survived by four sons: Harlan G. Davenport and wife Barbara, Great Bend, KS; Gary L. and wife Susan, Carbondale, KS; Joel A and wife Jeannette, Hutchinson, KS; and Darren C. and wife Deborah, Nederland, CO. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Pat Maphet, Enid, OK, Jean Crouse, Belleville, KS, and Joan Crouse, Lenoir City, TN; twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Gerald, John, and Ron, sisters Almeda, Ethel, and Olive, and husband Melvin in 2015.

Visitation will be held on Wed., Jan. 16, 2019 from 1-8 pm with the family greeting friends from 7-8 pm all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.

Graveside services will be held at the Chester City Cemetery, Chester, Nebraska at 10:30 am, Thurs., Jan. 17, 2019 and the family will hold a Memorial service on June 8, 2019 in Hutchinson, KS.
