Wanda C. (Johnson) Hughes

Wanda C. (Johnson) Hughes passed away on December 20, 2023 at the age of 87 at Salina Regional Hospital from complications from pneumonia.

Wanda was born October 10,1936 in a farmhouse near Miltonvale, Kansas.

She was the only child of Robert and Irene (Gibbs) Johnson.

Her family moved to Minneapolis, KS and then eventually Salina, where she graduated from Salina Central in 1954.  She went on to Brown Mackie and graduated with an Associates Degree in Executive Secretarial. She worked at Planters State Bank in the bookkeeping department, then later worked at Sears.

She married Arthur M. Hughes, Jr. on February 10, 1957 in Salina.  He passed away November 21, 1991.  She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Wallace and husband William, and her son, David Hughes and wife, Erin (McGinnis).

She’s also survived by her grandchildren Brett, Brandon, and Brady Wallace (Children of Brenda and Bill), and Martin, Megan (Hughes) Rohweder, Jeremy, Jessica, and Hannah Hughes (Children of Dave and Erin).

She had 12 great-grandchildren: Madison, Colton, Bryson, and Lena (Children of Brady and Whitney), Hayedon Arthur and Adelyne (Children of Brandon and Jerrica), John, Ada, and Nora (Children of Megan and Devin), Ally and Chapman (Children of Jeremy and Brittany), and Syrus (Child of Hannah and CJ).

Wanda loved traveling, camping, bowling, casinoes, playing pitch, dancing and watching the Chiefs!

The funeral will be held at Ryan Mortuary (137 North Eighth St. Salina, KS 67601) at 10:00am on Saturday, Dec. 30th.  A visitation will be available on Friday, Dec. 29th from 5-7 pm, also at Ryan Mortuary. Those wishing to donate to a memorial in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to “Choices” or the ARC of Saline Co.

The family also requests those wishing to attend, to dress casually and wear Chiefs clothing if possible.
