Vivian M. Erickson

Vivian M. Erickson, age 93, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at her home in Clyde, KS. She was born on Dec. 11, 1925 in Republic County, Kansas to Grant & Lillie M. (Myers) Kelly.

She was a 1942 graduate of Clyde High School.

She married James Lowe in 1944 and to this union, a daughter, Carol Sue was born. He was killed in active duty during WWII. She married Lloyd E. Erickson on May 1, 1949 in Stockton, KS and he preceded her on Nov. 28, 2014.

Vivian worked in the office of the Gelvin-Haughey Clinic during the 1950s. In the late 50s, she became ACP clerk at the Cloud County ASCS (FSA) office. When agricultural programs underwent changes in the late 60s, she worked for the soil conservation service until transferring to the Cloud County Register of Deeds office. She later became the Register of Deeds of Cloud County. In 1980, she and Lloyd purchased the VanDeMark House in Clyde, restored it and opened a family style restaurant. On the sale of the VanDeMark House in the 1990s, she took a job as a mapper and title searcher for the Cloud County Abstract office until her retirement.

Vivian loved to write poetry and family histories. She cooked, baked & shared her many signature dishes with grateful family and friends. She also was an accomplished artist.

Vivian was active in the Cloud County Democratic party and served as chairman. She loved her fellowship in P.E.O. and was a 72 year member of Chapter AV of P.E.O. She was a member of the Brantford Evangelical Covenant Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Sue Blecha & Janet Jones (Nick), both of Belleville; son, Tom Erickson (Julie), Clifton; sister, Betty Bergstrom, Clyde; grandchildren, Amy, Daniel, Matthew, Ethan, Aaron, Abigail, Rebekah, Seth, Joel & great-grandchildren, Megan, Chelsea, Grace, Carson, Bernadette, Matilda, Vivian, Willa, Vaughn, Gage, Grant, Isaac, Saul, Lydia, Emeri, Henley, Ezra & Hollis.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Lowe and Lloyd Erickson, son, Marc Erickson, parents Grant and Lillie Kelly, a sister, Dorothy Bowman & her 2 brothers, John Kelly & George Kenley, and son-in-law, Paul Blecha.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., November 18, 2019 at the Brantford Evangelical Covenant Church, Rural Clyde with Pastor Michael Ostermann officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 1-6 pm with family greeting from 4-6 pm, at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde. The family suggests memorials to Brantford Evangelical Covenant Church or Clyde Ambulance in care of the funeral home. For online condolences, please visit www.chaputbuoy.com.
