Veryl Ann Leach

Veryl Ann Leach, 76, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 2:45 p.m., Saturday, February 1st, 2020 while in the company of family members at Via Christi, St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas.

Veryl was born in Salina, Kansas on November 11, 1943, a daughter of Clyde M. and Nelly N. (Treadwell) Kellams.

Veryl attended Salina Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from Salina High School in 1961 and then attended Brown Mackie Community College, Salina, Kansas.

She was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in McPherson.

Through the years Veryl worked for Verner Smith Accounting, Salina, Kansas; St. Marks Church as an organist, Anamosa, Iowa;City of Monticello, Monticello, Iowa; was a homemaker for 10 years, then returned to work at the McPherson Senior Center, Belli Brothers, McPherson, Kansas; Charles L. Sommers Canoe Base, Ely, Minnesota; McPherson College, McPherson Motors, McPherson, Kansas; City of Windom, Windom, Kansas; MBI, Re-Use It Center, St. Anne’s Church, McPherson, Kansas.

Veryl was a member of Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver award; she was a member of the American Guild of Organists.

Veryl enjoyed sewing, playing the organ and piano, flowers, gardening, organizing; as a proud homemaker, she loved playing scrabble, volunteering, song writing, painting, crafting, reading, music, and spending time with her friends and family, especially her children and grandchildren.

On February 8, 1964, Veryl Ann Kellams was united in marriage to James A. Leach at Christ Cathedral in Salina, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Salina. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, two sons and a daughter, Jay, Jen, and Jon.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband James Leach of McPherson, Kansas; her children, Jay Leach and his wife Paula, of Pella, Iowa; Jen Charlesworth and her partner Jeff Hanschu, of McPherson, Kansas; Jon Phelps-Leach and his wife Abby, of Emporia, Kansas. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Monet, Payton, Maggie and Maya.

Veryl was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Kay Bishop.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Funeral Chapel.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, McPherson, Kansas with Rev. Basil Price officiating.
