Valosta Joy Beets, 93, of Salina, passed away July 11, 2020. Joy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Survivors include sons Terry (Lynn) Beets and Rick Beets; grandchildren Joel Beets, Jason Beets, Emily (Mat) Padilla, and Ryan Beets; and great-grandchildren Lincoln Padilla and Alek Beets.

Valosta Joy Lemen was born Sept. 28, 1926, the daughter of Ray Lemen and Nellie (Johnson) Lemen, in the small town of Lemons, Missouri. Joy reflected fondly on her childhood growing up in Lemons during the Great Depression.

Joy married the love of her life, Wallace “Wally” Beets, Dec. 6, 1947, in Wichita.

Joy and Wally Beets were longtime residents of Salina. Wally Beets worked as a golf professional at the Salina Country Club, where both Wally and Joy would often play.

They were married for 56 years until Wally passed away Nov. 10, 2004, at the age of 81.

Joy enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren and playing bridge with her friends. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, crosswords, and jigsaw puzzles.

Joy maintained connections with friends and family throughout her life.

Due to health risks from the coronavirus pandemic, no memorial service will be held.

Memorials in memory of Joy may be made, care of Ryan Mortuary, to First United Methodist Church of Salina or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina.
