Sylvia P. Shramek

Sylvia P. Shramek, 93, of Ellsworth, KS, and previously of Salina, KS, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026. She was born February 5, 1932, on the family farm in rural Ottawa County, KS, to Mark and Eva (Jagger) Garst.

Sylvia married James J. Shramek Jr. on August 18, 1949. They lived in Omaha, NE, before making their home in Salina. She was a homemaker, known as a great cook who made awesome cookies, and she was proud of raising her children and being active in her grand and great-grandchildren’s lives. She was a long-time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and she and James liked to attend square-dances with the Merry Mixers of Salina. She also liked sewing and oil painting in her free time.

Survivors include her sons, James S., of Salina, Mark A., of Holyrood, John M., of Dallas, and Patrick D., of Bison; sister, Mary Ann Dyer, of Omaha, Neb.; and many loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of almost 69 years, James; son, Charles “Chuck” Shramek; daughters, Barbara Ann and Linda Jolene; and grandson, Chad Rhea.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, at the American Legion Post 200, 416 N Main St, Holyrood, KS, 67450. Inurnment will be at a later date at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, KS.
