Ruby Marie Vallis

Ruby Marie née Brauckmuller Vallis, 93, of Salina, died November 30, 2020. She was born January 22, 1927, in Big Springs, Nebraska to Otto and Lena Brauckmuller.

She married Ralph Edwin Vallis on September 8, 1946 after dating only six months. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before his death in 2009, with more than 40 years spent in the Salina neighborhood where they made many friendships with neighbors of all ages.
She and Ralph were also enthusiastic about their friendships and many travels with other campers of Salina Sam’s Camping Club. Ruby was a lifetime member of Eastern Star. She especially enjoyed working as a customer service representative at and retired from School Specialty Supply in Salina. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for 50 years. She loved being around people and was well-known as the organizer of games and activities over many years for various workplace events, churches, and camping groups. She treasured times when her kids and grandkids came to visit for extended stays, so she enthusiastically planned extensive itineraries of nearby points of interest and age-appropriate crafts and activities that became lifelong shared memories.
At her 90th birthday celebration held at Eaglecrest Assisted Living and Retirement; more than 175 guests arrived to deliver personal greetings.

Survivors include sisters Norma Saathoff and Irene Kruse; daughters, Lynette (Melvin) Melcher, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., Rhonda (Eugene) Moravec, of Wichita, Kansas, and Diane (William) Anderson, of Plankinton, S.D.; sons, Douglas (Shelli) Vallis, of Rapid City, S.D., Bradley (Rowena) Vallis, of Ottawa, and Stanley (Shiela) Vallis, of Topeka; 17 grandchildren and step grandchildren, Richard Melcher, Peter Melcher, Jocelyn Woods, Meghan Jones, Michael Vallis, Jackie Vallis, Erica Wagner, Jamie Hewitt, Timothy Long, Kyle Moravec, Shawn Moravec, Kira May, Christopher Toler, Ashleigh Vallis, Danielle Palmer, Amanda Akins and Katherine Pollard; many great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Ralph Vallis; brother Chester Brauckmuller; sisters Thelma Fagg, Dorothy Bauer, and Verna Hayes.
Visitation will be Friday from 11 to noon, with funeral following at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina
