Ross Kelly

Ross Kelly, age 93, left this earthly life surrounded by his family on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Midland Hospice House, Topeka, Kansas. He was born on May 17, 1926 in Corinth, Kansas to Ross R. & Mary “Maymie” F. (Marvinec) Kelly.

Ross graduated from Jamestown High School in the class of 1944. Ross joined the U.S. Navy and served during WWII in the South Pacific on the Admiralty Islands.

He married Maxine R. Lewis on Nov. 16, 1948 in Belleville, Kansas and they were one day shy of celebrating 71 years of marriage. Together they operated Kelly’s Fine Foods in Glasco, Kansas from 1968-1990.

He was a member of the Glasco United Methodist Church, Past Commander of the VFW Glasco Memorial Post #7697 and Glasco Country Club where he loved to play golf and spend time with friends. Ross had a passion for coaching local youth baseball teams. He also enjoyed traveling and watching all sports. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in all of their events. He and Maxine spent countless hours traveling to watch them.

Ross is survived by his wife, Maxine, Topeka; sons, Norman Kelly (Sherrie), Salina and Kyle Kelly (Vickie), Lansing; son-in-law, Brad Bryant, Silver Lake; 10 grandchildren, Jason Butler, Nikki Foley (Jeff), Bryan Kelly (Kay), Jessica Martens (John), Matthew Bryant (Amanda), Stephanie Bryant, Javen Kelly, Anne Kelly, Shancy Kelly, Kari Ebel (Seth) and his 4 great grandchildren.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Nancy Bryant and a brother, Eugene Kelly.

It was Ross’s wish to be cremated. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at the Glasco United Methodist Church, with Pastor Dennis McAlister officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow in the Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown, Kansas.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm at the Glasco United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 with the family receiving friends during this time.
