Roger Gerard Fiedler

Roger Gerard Fiedler, 68, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, May 10th, 2020 while in the company of family members, at Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas.

Roger was born in Great Bend, Kansas on March 8, 1952, a son of Geraldine “Gerry” Catherine (Leiker) Fiedler and Anthony Carl Fiedler, Sr.

Roger attended St. James Catholic School in Augusta, Kansas until 1961 when his family moved to McPherson. Kansas and he then attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1970. Following graduation, Roger joined the United States Army and honorably served his country during Vietnam.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church McPherson, KS.

Through the years, Roger worked for Culver’s Fish Farm and Culver’s Sporting Goods Store, worked for VanGuard Plastics as Quality Control Manager, worked for Viega where he was Director of Quality Insurance, and retired in 2017 as Facilities Manager.

Roger was a member of American Legion Post 24; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson.

Roger enjoyed being with his friends and family, laughing and having a good time, hunting, fishing, and shooting his guns.

Roger Gerald Fiedler was united in marriage to Garnet Rae Anderson on November 13, 1976 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. They were blessed with the birth of a son Shane.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife of over 43 years, Garnet Fiedler, of McPherson, Kansas; his son, Shane Fiedler and wife Julie, of McPherson, Kansas; his siblings, Gail Gill and husband Tim, of Stanley, New Mexico; Sheryl Ann Fiedler, of McPherson, Kansas, Janet Stine and husband Dan, of Roscoe, Illinois, Ronald Fiedler and wife Dee, of McPherson, Kansas, Gregory Fiedler, of McPherson, Kansas, Duane Fiedler, of Lyons, Kansas, and Randy Fiedler, of McPherson, Kansas; his two favorite granddaughters, Katie Lorraine Fiedler and Kember Read Fiedler; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Kim Fiedler and Annette Fiedler; his brother, Anthony “Tony” Fiedler, Jr.

Private family graveside service will be at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating. Military Honors will be presented by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson.
