Robert “Bob” Raymond Hoffhines

Robert “Bob” Raymond Hoffhines, age 82, beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26th, 2023, in Salina, Kansas.

Bob was born at home in Esbon, Kansas on December 6, 1940, the oldest son of Edna Frances (Carleton) and Raymond Earl Hoffhines.  In his youth, Bob and his brother, Ross, would spend summers working on their aunt and uncle’s farm, driving the farm tractor years before learning to drive a car.  Bob graduated from Delphos High School in 1958. He then attended Kansas State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in business and became a lifelong K-State fan, attending many seasons of football and bowl games. During his school years Bob also participated in FFA, football, basketball and ROTC.

After an early career in residential construction, Bob sold construction equipment for White Star Machinery, Inc. from 1980 until he retired in 2006. This time earned him the nickname of “Bobcat Bob” since he typically had a bobcat in his possession; if he didn’t have one, he would locate one at the yard in town where he could take the grandkids for the bobcat rides they looked forward to on their visits. Always the consummate salesman, he could (and would) strike up conversations with everyone he met….in line at the grocery store, watching a football game, eating dinner at a restaurant. Bob never knew a stranger.

Bob and his first wife, Wreatha Tenney (Streeter) had three daughters. He was a devoted father who took his family boating, camping and shared his woodworking skills in many 4-H projects. Throughout his life, Bob was an avid dog lover who enjoyed the company of many special pets. German Shepherds were typically his favorite dog breed. But at the age of 80, he adopted a Siberian Husky puppy named Kisses. Daily trips to the dog park were an activity Bob and Kisses enjoyed right up until the end. Bob modeled so much compassion for animals that this trait has been deeply instilled in his children and grandchildren.

In 1981, Bob married Marsha Robinson, his wife of 42 years. Utilizing his construction background, he designed and built their current home and owned/managed multiple rental properties, often renting below market to those in need. Bob and Marsha became members of First Covenant Church in 2017 where Bob utilized his gift for talking to anyone by working the “connections” desk for new church visitors and serving as an usher. In April 2023, Bob graduated from the 4-year Menninger Bible Study program that he and Marsha faithfully attended.

Bob is survived by his wife, Marsha; his daughters, Sheri Maki (Scott), of Glendale, Arizona, Stefeni Green (Jeff), of Allen, Texas, Staci Reynolds (Dustin), of Scottsdale, Arizona; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.  Bob is also survived by three brothers, Ross Hoffhines (Melva), of Salina, Ed Hoffhines (Anita), of Kanopolis, Mike Hoffhines (Theresa), of Salina; and a sister, Deanna Cleveland (Terry), of Salina.

He is preceded in death by his parents and ex-wife.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 6th at First Covenant Church, 2625 E. Magnolia Road, Salina, Kansas.  Burial will follow at 2:00 pm, at the Delphos Cemetery, Delphos, Kansas.
