Nelda Mae Horan

Nelda Mae Horan, 90, passed away July 11, 2018 in Abilene, Kansas. She was born to Aaron and Bertha Anna Dayhoff on May 6, 1928 in the Detroit, Kansas community. She attended high school in Chapman and Abilene.
On Jan, 17, 1946 she married John Horan and they had five children: Sandy, Marita, John Daniel, Tim and Joni. Over the years, Nelda held many jobs at Houlton’s Market, A&P, KP&L, and she sold cosmetics. After their retirement, she and John owned Chicken Crossing Antiques south of Abilene.
In her youth, Nelda attended the Bethal Church. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and in 1998 became a member of the Abilene Brethren in Christ Church. She was a board member, served on the kitchen committee and decoration committee of the church. She was a member of the Abilene Country Club, Chapman Golf Club, Rolling Meadows Golf Club and Chisholm Trail Golf Club. She was also a member of Great Life Golf and Fitness.
Nelda was preceded in death by her husband John, daughter Sandy, brothers Ivan, Dennis and Herbert and sisters Aaronette and Arlene. She is survived by Marita Millner and husband Dick of Abilene, J.D. and wife Viki of Manhattan, Tim and wife Kathy of Abilene, and Joni Horan of Plainville. She also leaves behind grandchildren Mark Willey and wife Renae of Abilene, Michael Willey of Abilene, Camille Wheeler and husband Russell of Lawrence, Tamara Leard and husband Ron of Kittanning, Pennsylvania, Jennifer Showalter and husband Brady of Springville, Indiana, Tanya Schaller and husband Randy of Park City, Mandy Horan of Abilene, Amy Horan of Columbus, Ohio, Robin Weatherman and husband Nathan of Gladstone, Missouri, Ryan Horan of Abilene, Lindsey Linville and husband Scott of Plainville, and Steven Boyd and wife Meagan of Lincoln, Nebraska. Nelda also leaves 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, at the Brethren in Christ Church, 1005 N. Buckeye Avenue, Abilene, Kansas with services following officiated by Rev. Dale Engle. Burial will be in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery.
