Nancy E. Swisher

Nancy E. Swisher, 84, of Gypsum, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 in Salina surrounded by her husband and children. Born December 3, 1933 in Salina to Ray and Ethel (Scott) Miller.

Nancy received her teaching certificate from Colorado Women’s College in Denver, Colorado. She continued her education at Marymount College in Salina where she received her bachelor’s degree in Music, Education and Social Work. Nancy taught grade school in Gypsum and then worked as a social worker for Abilene and Salina’s Social and Rehabilitation Services. She later worked at St. John’s Military School as a social worker for a combined total of 26 years. She was awarded “Social Worker of the Year” in 1996. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and played for her church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son; Brad Swisher, a grandson; Johnathan Taylor and her sisters; Dorothy Enright, Marjorie Stewart and Joyce Kohman.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 64 years; Dean Swisher, children; Brenda (John) Peterson, Rose Ann Taylor, and Brian Swisher, all of Salina, a sister; Gladys Catherine Dike of Ft. Worth, TX and 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

There will be no visitation prior to Nancy’s funeral service at 2:00pm, Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Gypsum, 807 Spring St., Gypsum. Burial will take place at the Gypsum Valley Cemetery #2.
