Maxine E. Hoeffner

Maxine E. Hoeffner, 90, of Salina, passed away at home surrounded by family on October 9, 2025. She was born September 23, 1935 to Anthony and Eda Adam.

Maxine grew up in rural Plainville, Kansas. She was proud to be one of 10 children and shared many fond memories of growing up on the farm in a large family. She graduated from Plainville High School in 1953.

After high school, Maxine became a nighttime Telephone Operator for Southwestern Bell. On a weekend trip to Salina with her older sister, she met the love of her life, Robert Hoeffner, on a blind date. They were married on September 22, 1956.

Together, Maxine and Bob built their dream home in the country and there they raised their three children. She was an excellent homemaker, mother and wife. Her cooking and baking skills were renowned, and she was especially famous for her home-baked pies.

The two most important things to Maxine were Faith and Family. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salina.  Later in life, Maxine volunteered as a PRE Instructor for years at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Salina.

She is survived by her sons: Daniel (Jody) Hoeffner of Augusta, KS and Tim (Mieke) Hoeffner of Salina; daughter: Jennifer (James) Dario of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren: Adrienne, Emily, Collin, Kaitlyn, Caleb, Aidan and Ella; great-grandchildren: Madilyn and Marilynne; sisters: Mildred Loiseau of Fort Collins CO, Betty Salzman of Salina; brothers: Lee Adam of Salina, Gerald Adam of Salina, Fred (Kathy) Adam of Plainville, and Ken (Linda) Adam of Salina.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents Anthony and Eda Adam, and sisters Lucy Johnson, Nettie Williams and Leona McClanahan.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Ryan Mortuary.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Salina.  Burial will follow in All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina.
