Marjorie Fay (Smith) Lindstrom, 91, went to her heavenly home August 9, 2020, from her earthly home in Falun, KS. She was born September 16, 1928, in Salina, KS, to Paul Vestal Smith and Matilda (Allan) Smith. She was the fifth of five children born to this couple. Her kind, compassionate, loving, and generous heart will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She attended Kansas State University on a Union Pacific scholarship. She returned to her home on weekends to work in the family dairy, delivering milk. While in Manhattan, she worked at Yeo and Trubey’s. She left college to care for her widowed mother. She and her mother moved to Beaverton, Oregon for 11 months to work for Birds Eye frozen foods. Upon return to Salina, she attended Brown Mackie School of Business. She is a member of Phi Rho Zeta sorority of Brown Mackie. Following her education at Brown Mackie; Mr. Mackie, the school director, was instrumental in getting her a job at Robinson Milling Company as the Office Manager, working for Edmund Morgenstern the Director of Milling. Robinson Milling was sold in 1967. At that time, Marjorie became a bank auditor and the bank president’s secretary at First State Bank and Trust. During the 20 years that she worked at First State Bank, it transitioned to being a bank and trust. When the bank was sold, she became the office manager for Gibson’s Discount Center of Salina. During her five years of employment, she managed putting their five stores on the computer. She left Gibson’s to devote more time to her mother who was in a nursing home in Marquette, KS.
On April 29, 1967, Marjorie was united in marriage to Ervin Lindstrom in Salina at the University United Methodist Church. They made their home in Falun, KS. Ervin Lindstrom was a farmer and cattle rancher with his two brothers Clyde and Glenn. Ervin also had a brother Vernon who was a banker and a sister Beulah. Marjorie and Ervin were loyal K.C. Royals fans with season tickets.
Marjorie was a 4H leader for 20 years in the Saline Valley 4H. With 32 participants, she conducted plays, demonstrations, monthly meetings, and projects. She has been a member of Friendly Neighbors Club since 1972. She has been serving as the secretary for this organization. She served as secretary of the Falun Water District for 30 years. She has been a participant in FCE in Manhattan. She is a member of the University United Methodist Church and has been a church board member. She has been a member of the church for 91 years. She belonged to several bridge clubs.
She traveled the world including Ireland, England, Canada, the Mediterranean, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Greece, Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Republic of Czech, Hungary, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Hawaii, and Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Alice Trubey, Alan Smith, Faith Singleton, and Mary Boyle.
She is survived by nieces and nephews: Timothy Paul (Linda) Trubey of Olathe, KS, Rosalie Hawk of Salina, KS, Barbara (Eric) Bailey of Tulsa, OK, Donna (Tom) Woods of Lodi, CA, Linda (Mike) Poh of Huntington Beach, CA, and Mary Ann Boyle of Great Bend, KS. She is survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her good friends Susan and Kevin Burchard of Abilene, KS.
