Marianne Spencer

Marianne Spencer, 85, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 3:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 10th, 2018 while in the company of family members, at Cedars House.

Marianne was born in McPherson, Kansas on December 24, 1932, a daughter of Iris Anna (Neilsen) and Carl Fredrick Anderson, Sr.

Marianne attended the Washington grade school, McPherson Junior High, and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1951.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church McPherson, where she was a member of the Deborah Circle and served her church in many capacities.

Marianne was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked as a bookkeeper for McPherson Citizens Bank and later for Home State Bank. She then worked for Sears and Roebuck as a clerk until her retirement. Marianne then worked for the First United Methodist Church as the Education Assistant where she helped start the Wednesday evening supper program.

Marianne was a member of Progressive Home Maker’s EHU; 4-H Leader, Den Mother for Troop 133 Boy’s Scouts and MHS Classmates of 1951 monthly social get together. Marianne enjoyed playing cards, reading, quilting, gardening, camping, and spending time with her family and friends at the Lake. She loved spoiling her 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Marianne Anderson was united in marriage to Melvin Alvin “Mel” Spencer, Jr. on October 24, 1953 at the First Congregational Church, McPherson, Kansas. Melvin died on January 29, 2012.

She is survived by her loving family that she was very proud of, Carlton Spencer, of McPherson, Kansas; Cindy Pressnall and husband Doug, of McPherson, Kansas; Craig Spencer and wife Debra, of McPherson, Kansas, and Valerie Frazier and husband Darren, of McPherson, Kansas; her siblings, Aletha Fields, of Columbia, Missouri and Carl F, Anderson, Jr. and his wife Liz, of Estes Park, Colorado; her sister-in-law, Janice Anderson, of Sierra Vista, Arizona; her 12 grandchildren, Amy Rozelle (Jeff), Megan Spencer, Leah Hust (Shaun), Tim Erickson (Stephanie), Alyssa Hale (Andre), Erin Patrick (Dale), Sabrah Parsons (Scott), Kimberly Linn (Jacob), Tarah Clark (Eric) Karenah Thissen (Camron), Jamie Pressnall (Jerry) and Justin Pressnall (Ayda); her 22-great-grandchildren, Daysia Hale, Izaiah Hale, Kingston Spencer, Allison Rozelle, Maya Rozelle, Laya Erickson, Kendall Erickson, London Erickson, Harrison Pressnall, Casey Hust, Quintin Parsons, Sandy Parsons, Clara Parsons, Emma Clark, Carter Thissen, Addysen Patrick, Ashtyn Patrick, Jaxyn Patrick, Jensyn Patrick, Jase Linn, Riley Linn, and Avery Linn; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin, her brother, Quinten Anderson and her daughter-in-law Marilyn Spencer.

The Memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13th, 2018 with Reverend Darren Frazier and Reverend Karen Rice-Ratzlaff officiating.

Private family committal service will be held at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.
