Lawrence (Larry) Donald Triplett

Lawrence (Larry) Donald Triplett, 79, of Salina passed away June 16 in Overland Park, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Millicent Dolecek Triplett.  They were married on February 24, 1962.

Larry was born to James and Marie Triplett on October 31, 1939 in Pomeroy, Iowa.  He graduated from Des Moines Township at Rolfe Iowa in 1958, and then enlisted as a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force.  In 1963, he launched what would become a successful entrepreneurial career and
opened his first Standard Oil service station.  That was the seed of an operation, Triplett Inc, which today includes the 24/7 Travel Stores located throughout Kansas, Citywide Self-Storage and Access Storage. In 1993, he resigned as President of Triplett, Inc.

Larry was an active member of his community as a member of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Stores of Kansas, Amoco Advisory Boards, Boy Scouts of America, Salina Noon Rotary, North Salina Lions Club and Catholic Charities in the Salina
Catholic Diocese. He was a leader who was driven to challenge and motivate others to improve processes and decisions, so that
business/charity would be more effective and efficient.

Hobbies included playing golf, cards and hunting upland game and deer on his farm in Ottawa County.  Larry was known to lose often on the golf course, but immediately thereafter, he would recover handsomely at the clubhouse card table. Some of the greatest memories the family shares are camping at Lake Milford and spending time at the family farm in Ellsworth.

Larry and his wife raised four children: Larinda Rogers (Michael), Shelda Vandervoort (Thomas), Rebecca Augustine (Mark) and Frank Triplett (Bethany). They have fourteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter.  Larry is survived by his siblings: Joseph Triplett, Luann Triplett Overton, James Triplett and Richard Triplett.  He was preceded in death by his parents James and Marie, his siblings Thomas and Michael Triplett and a baby sister Mary Genevieve.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 24 at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salina with the interment at the All Saints Cemetery.  The visitation will be held at Ryan Mortuary on Sunday, June 23 from 4:00 to 8:00pm with the vigil beginning at 6:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic
Charities of Northern Kansas and Sunflower Adult Day Services.
