Joe Nathan Jones, Sr.

Joe Nathan Jones, Sr., was born in Elrod, Alabama November 24, 1933, to Reverend Joseph E. and Lizzie (Berry) Jones.in Elrod, Alabama.  Joe passed away November 19, 2022, at Salina Regional Health Center.

He married Beatrice Yvonne Pearson, March 17, 1957, in Newton, Kansas.  To this union five children were born.

Joe was in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church since May 1961.

Joe was a Big Brother, a Kiwanis Member, 1st President of Sunset School PTA, NAACP Member, Salina Drug Force and Saline County Human Relations Commissioner.

For thirty-five years, Joe was employed by Marshall Motor Auto Group.  He became a bus driver for El Dorado Coaches traveling over the United States and Canada.  For eighteen years, Joe was a bus driver for the Heartland Head Start Program.  His name became “Mr. Joe” by the children on his bus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Joseph E. and Lizzie (Berry) Jones, brothers; Nathaniel Jones, Jerome Jones and Otis Jones, and a great-grandson; Bryant Sanchez.

Left to cherish him is his beloved wife of 65 years; Beatrice Yvonne Jones, children, Christopher (Zoleatha) Jones of Wichita, Valerie Sanchez of Salina, Sandra Jones of Topeka, Joe Nathan Jones, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM, David (Louisa) of Tulsa, OK., and Scott (Lauren) Gardner of Salina, a sister; Linda (Charles) Loubert of Baltimore, MD, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his loyal and faithful friend – Rowan.

Visitation will be Monday, November 28, 2022, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, and the family present from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina.

Joe will be laid to rest with military honors at a graveside service at 11:00am, Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Roselawn Memorial Park, 1920 E Crawford, Salina.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, and the Kansas Honor Flight in care of Roselawn Mortuary, PO Box 2322, Salina, 67402.
