Jerry M. Scott

Jerry MacArthur Scott, 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away November 19, 2023. Jerry was born in Tampa, Florida July 14, 1942, to Elijah and Edna (Folds) Scott. He grew up in Georgia, fishing and hunting and spending summers on his grandparent’s farm. He graduated from Bainbridge High School, Bainbridge, GA.

Jerry served his country in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Schilling Air Force Base, Salina. He married Sharon Sheridan on June 11, 1967, in Salina. He retired as Fire Marshall of the Salina Fire Dept after 32 years. Scott branched into accident prevention serving on the Saline County Safe Kids board and helping secure grants for child safety seats and smoke alarms. He worked with the Kansas legislature as member and president of the Fire Education Association of Kansas to implement a mandatory smoke detection law for Kansas homes. He mentored youth as a Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop #3, Salina in the 1980s. He was owner of Scott’s Taxidermy for many years; showing his love of nature.

As a member of the 1st United Methodist Church, Salina for 43 years, he served as a head usher and on many committees. He dearly loved his family and was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, William Wells; and stepbrothers, Harvey and Charles Wells.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon; son, Jerry; grandsons, Luke and Jackson Scott; step grandsons, Levi Sanderson; sisters, Joyce (Clint) Hillburn, Becky (Owen (Grimsley) and Shirley (Jack) Ellis; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and sister-in-law, Edith Hummer, Ft. Worth, Tx.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, November 27, 2023, at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Burial will be in the Carneiro Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to 1st United Methodist Church, the Emergency Aid Food Bank or the Rescue Mission, all of Salina.
