Jerry Franklin Lappin

Lifetime Salina resident Jerry Franklin Lappin, 89, of Salina, passed away after a series of health issues, on October 9, 2018.

He was born on November 7, 1928 in the mining town of Boomer, West Virginia to Edwin and Iva Hughes. Ralph William Lappin and his wife Charlotte (Carrington) adopted Jerry, finally moving to Salina, KS around 1940 and started R.W. Lappin Irrigation Company.

Jerry attended Salina schools and graduated from Washington High School in 1947. He graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business and enlisted in the US Navy serving in San Diego and Key West, Florida. While home on leave he met and eventually married Patricia A. Bay.

Following his naval service, the young couple was at home in Salina where he settled into serving as a purchasing agent for Hedges Neon Signs, Applequist-Lagerberg Mfg, Jarvis Construction and American Electric.

In the early years of his retirement he was a part-time bus driver for USD 305, St John’s Military School, and Sacred Heart School. He enjoyed being with people and enriching their days with a story or a humorous anecdote.

Jerry was proceeded in death by his wife of 69 years, Pat, in August of this year.

He is survived by his son Jerry and his wife Ulrike, and his grandson Paul and his wife Layla, all of Garden City, KS.

There will be no visitation, as cremation has been chosen.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina.
