Jean Catherine Luke

Jean Catherine Luke, 93, formerly of Solomon, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 15th, at the Ascension Via Christi Ridge Care Center in Wichita.

A lifelong member of the Solomon community, Jean was born on November 14th, 1928 in Solomon, Kansas. She was one of four daughters of the late Rebecca (Giersch) and Thomas Kelly. She was a graduate of Solomon High School and attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. On October 10th, 1953, she was united in marriage to Paul “Pit” Frederick Luke, who preceded her in death on June 25th, 2002. She was a lifetime member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Solomon. She was a dedicated Homemaker, a talented baker, and a cake decorator, and she dedicated her life to the betterment of her family and the community.

Jean is survived by a son, Randy (Karen) Luke, of Wichita, Kansas; and sons-in-law Frank Johnson, of Solomon, Kansas and Mark (Susan) Johnson of Salina, Kansas; four grandchildren: Erin (Travis) Parret, Kirk (Abbie) Johnson, Brady (Jenny) Johnson, Kelli (Drew) Pettijohn; and five great-grandchildren: Luke Johnson, Myles Johnson, Kailyn Pettijohn, Landrie Pettijohn, and Tanner Parret. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn (John) Hoisington, brother-in-law Merlin Moorman, and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters Sandy Johnson and Sharon “Snuff” Johnson, sisters Helen (Hank) Paul, and Johna Moorman.

Friends may call from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home in Salina.

Visitation with the family and a parish rosary/vigil will be held on Monday morning, December 20 at 10:00 AM with the funeral mass following at 10:30 AM at the Immaculate Catholic Church in Solomon. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Solomon.

Following the burial, a luncheon will be held at the church in the parish hall.

The family requests donations be directed to the Immaculate Conception Church in Solomon, Kansas, or the Solomon Alumni Association and sent in care of the funeral home.
