Janet L. Dyck

Janet L. Dyck of Salina, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family. Janet was born on March 5, 1933 to Floyd and Ruth (Lakie) Graham in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Though our cherished Mom, Grandma and Great-grandma has gone to be with Jesus and her husband, she remains with us in our hearts.

When Mom was young, her father had a Five and Dime in Lindsborg, KS, where she worked for him. They sold lots of candy, which is where we believe she acquired her sweet tooth!

Mom and Dad were high school sweethearts at Lindsborg High School. They met on the football field. He was a football player, she was a cheerleader. They were married March 6, 1952 while Dad was on leave from the Marines, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lindsborg Kansas. There wedding was delayed a day due to a blizzard!

Mom’s greatest wish was to start a family. They adopted Jay in 1962 and Jill in 1964. Her family was her whole life. She stayed at home to raise her children until they were full time in school. She then worked at Browns Shoe Fit, a job she very much enjoyed! She also was on a bowling league and played every Wednesday for many years.

She volunteered for literally everything! Anything for her children; room mother, field trips, bake cookies, whatever! She delivered meals on wheel for many years. She was active in anything involving her children, her church and her family. She was always there for us.

When her first grandchild, Garrett, was born in 1988, she quit her job at Browns Shoe Fit and officially became “Grandma”. Later, she added Rachael, Hunter, Rebecca and Breck to her grandchild collection. Her life was full of family, holidays, family vacations and all our activities.

Later she added Great grandchildren to her collection. Amelia, Jaxson, Abe, and Josie. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest treasure.

While taking a rare break from her family, Janet loved to travel. She talked for years of her trip to visit family in Scotland with her sister-in-law Sonja Auldridge. They also enjoyed a fabulous cruise to Alaska. Janet and Sonja were great friends throughout her life. Mom was an only child, and Sonja was like a sister to her.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jerry Dyck.

Survivors include her son Jay Dyck of Dallas, daughter Jill Dyck of Salina, grandson Garrett (Kendra) Dyck and great granddaughter Amelia. Granddaughter Rachael (Michael) Walker of Bennington and great grandchildren Jaxson and Josie. Grandson Hunter Dyck of Dallas, Granddaughter Rebecca Hough of Salina, grandson Breck Jordan and great grandson Abraham Jordan of Dallas.

Memorial service will be held at University United Methodist Church, 1509 S. Santa Fe, Salina, Kansas on Saturday, November 19th at 11:00 am, following a private burial. Lunch will be served following the service. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18 from 5-7 pm at Ryan Mortuary, where the family will greet friends.
