Ida Mae Schoenecker-Hanna

Ida Mae Schoenecker-Hanna, 93, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:11 a.m., Tuesday, July 16th, 2019 while in the company of family members, at her daughters and son-in-law house.

Ida was born in rural Kingman, Kansas on May 8, 1926, a daughter of Marcus L. and Cressie C. (Frye) Gerber.

Ida Mae attended St. Leo Grade School, Waterloo, Kansas and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Wichita, Kansas in 1944.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church McPherson.

Through the years, Ida Mae was a homemaker, worked as a waitress for Starlite Restaurant and was well known as the waitress of Happy Chef Restaurant until her retirement in 1992, both of McPherson.

Ida Mae was a member of the V.F.W Auxillary Post 2715 and the American Legion Auxillary Post 24 both of McPherson.

Ida Mae enjoyed dancing, camping, going to the lake, fishing, playing cards especially Pinochle and Pitch, marbles, dominoes, golfing, enjoyed her trips to the casino, bingo, gardening, making her homemade cookies, lemon pies and many other favorites, coffee time with her special friends and spending time with her family and friends.

Ida Mae Gerber was united in marriage to Joseph Bartel Schoenecker on January 25, 1949 at Waterloo, Kansas. The young the couple established their first home together in Wichita, Kansas. The young couple was blessed with the birth of 9 children, three sons and six daughters, Bev, Bob, Sandy, Sam, Linda, Mike, Christy, Connie Jo and Mary Kay. Joe died on February 20, 1987. Ida Mae Schoenecker was united in marriage to Walter L. “Walt” Hanna on March 9, 1992 in McPherson, Kansas. Walt died on February 9, 2013.

She is survived by her children Michael Schoenecker and his wife Andrea, of Phoenix, Arizona, Beverly Burch and her husband Dennis, of Canton, Kansas, Sandra Krehbiel and her husband Jay, of McPherson, Kansas, Linda Nutt and her husband Tommy, of Magnolia, Texas, Christy Crowther and her husband Brian, of McPherson, Kansas, Connie Jo Krug and her husband Harold, of McPherson, Kansas and Mary Kay Johnson and her husband Brad, of McPherson, Kansas; her daughter-in-law Peggy Schoenecker widow of Robert “Bob”, of Moundridge, Kansas; her sister Delores Bergkamp, of Pretty Prairie, Kansas; her step-children Linda J. Howe and her husband Tom, of Augusta, Kansas, Kaye Ellis and her husband Randy, of McPherson, Kansas, Judy Hanna, of McPherson, Kansas, Randal E. Hanna and his wife Connie, of Moundridge, Kansas and David Lee Hanna and his wife Bridget, of Kansas City, Kansas; her 32 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren

Ida Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Joseph Schoenecker; her late husband Walter “Walt” Hanna; her sons, Samuel Joseph Schoenecker and Robert Francis Schoenecker and her siblings, Charles Gerber, Marcella LeFevre, Jane Thome and Urban Gerber.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. w/Rosary at 7:15 p.m. at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas with Fr. David Lies officiating.

Burial will be at McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Lords Diner, Bishop Gerber Science Center or Ronald McDonald House and they can be sent to Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 Euclid St., McPherson, Kansas 67460..
