Harland Arnold Riekenberg

Harland Arnold Riekenberg, 97, of Salina, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022. He was born June 19, 1925, in Linn, KS.

Harland met the love of his life, Dorothy Stockamp in October of 1954 and married her May of 1955 in Salina. After 58 years of love and happiness, Dorothy passed away August 16, 2013.

Harland grew up on the farm during the 1930’s and started working as a hired hand for local farmers before starting his lifelong career of truck driver with Simon Truckline of Washington, KS. Later he moved to Salina, KS where he started driving for Gooch Feed Mill. Later Harland delivered laundry for Model Laundry Company of Salina, KS for him to be home in the evenings with his loving wife Dorothy. Harland later retired in 1990 after four years with Food Services of America and twenty-four years at Gamble Robinson as a truck driver.

Harland was very active in his church Trinity Lutheran in Salina, KS holding several positions during his earlier years. He loved western music, making Prairie Band a regular stop and Kansas City Jam Sessions. One of his favorite pass times was playing cards, his favorite being “Sheep Head (Buck)”

Harland also looked forward to family BBQ’s, holiday get togethers and a slice of homemade pie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold W., and Emma Dorothea R. (Grother) Riekenberg and beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy Riekenberg and nephew Bob Stockamp.

Survivors include sister Luella Colburn of Belleville, KS, several nieces and nephews: Elden Colburn of Manhattan, Ks, Lois Garcia and husband Max of Wakefield, KS, Emilie Greenwood and husband Jim of Morrowville, Ks, Howard and wife Marcella Walter of Loveland, CO, Lucille Farrar of Bonner Springs, KS, Lester and wife Lois Walter of Sylvan Grove, Ks, Dale and wife Judy Walter of Salina, KS, Jan Dieffenbach of Clearwater, FL, Herbert Rinkel of Clearwater, FL, Bonnie Hanson of Illinois, along with many great nieces and great nephews.

Harland will be greatly missed by so many here on earth as he ascends to a well-deserved place in Heaven.

Visitation will be on Thursday at 9:30AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, one hour before the service.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday Aug 4, 2022, at 10:30am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 702 S. Ninth St., Salina, KS.
