Doris Jean Parkhurst Petrilyak, “Dottie”

Doris Jean Parkhurst Petrilyak, “Dottie” age 91 passed peacefully on December 22, 2020. . She was preceded in death by her husband Nicholas Petrilyak, son Nicholas M. Petrilyak, her parents Harry I. & Anna Hilman Parkhurst, and brother Robert L. Parkhurst.

Dottie was born May 3, 1929 in Glen Ridge New Jersey. She graduated from Montclair High School, Montclair NJ.  In 1949 she graduated from Stratford College, Danville VA. After graduation she moved to New York and worked for American Airlines at Idelwylde now Kennedy Airport. In 1955 she married Nicholas Petrilyak and raised five children.

She is survived by a son David Petrilyak of Santa Monica CA, daughters Nancy (James) Treat of Junction City KS, Donna Petrilyak of Phoenix AZ and Nina (Orlando) Sanchez of Irving TX, daughter-in-law Barbara Petrilyak, Holly Springs, NC. Seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Tate) Osterman, Lauren (Jason) Nagy, Stephen (Ashley) Petrilyak, Jarrad (Raquel) Petrilyak, Nicholas Treat, Michael Treat and Presley Sanchez. Nine great grandchildren, Elizabeth “Elle”, Emery, Madison, Kylie, Wyatt, Dax, Jacoby, Aria, Scarlett and Lincoln.

In New York she was active in the Lord Sterling chapter of the D.A.R., she was a Cub Scout Leader, member of Greenwich Civic Assn., PTA and Girl Scouts.

In 1973 the family moved to Belen, NM. In New Mexico she worked at the Los Lunas Hospital & Training School, was an active member of Charles Dibrell chapter of D.A.R. Mrs. Petrilyak was also active in the Rio Communities Assn, Rio Communities Fire House Ladies Auxiliary, very active in The Republican Party of NM, Valencia County NM Roadrunners Assn, VFW Post 2387 Ladies Auxiliary, Girl Scouts, 4H and parent organizations for Belen Consolidated Schools. She enjoyed attending the many sports activities her children and grandchildren participated in.

She enjoyed the Belen High School Concert and Marching Band as well as the UNM marching band, and the music dept programs at UNM. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and friend.
