Donald Wayne “Don” Nelson

Donald Wayne “Don” Nelson, 53, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 6:59 a.m., Monday, March 23rd, unexpectedly, at his home.

Don was born at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota on March 27, 1966, a son of Donald Kent Nelson and Janice Lee (Allen) Nelson.

Don attended Roosevelt grade school, Park School, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1984. He then attended Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas where he received his Master’s in Business and Administration.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church McPherson, KS.

Don was in the United States Army and National Guard, worked for the IRS in Atlanta Georgia, worked as an accountant for the U.S. Government on the United States Air Guard in Youngstown, Ohio, and worked for Spirit Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas.

Don enjoyed cross country running and track and field, was proud of his service to his Country in the United States Army and National Guard having served in many conflicts and battles from 1990 thru April 2014.

He is survived by his father, Donald K. Nelson, of McPherson, Kansas; his sister, Sharron Elhaje, and husband Tamim, of Cypress Hill, Texas; the mother of his child, Deniese Nelson, of Portland, Oregon; and his beloved daughter, Morgan Nelson, of Portland, Oregon.

Don was preceded in death by his mother Janice L. Nelson.

Private family burial services will be at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg, Kansas.

Glidden – Ediger Funeral Home was in charge of cremation services.
