Beloved father, grandfather, friend, and husband, the Honorable Danny Dale Boyer, 77, known as “Dan,” passed away Jan. 31, 2018 in his Salina, Kansas, home. Born in Arlington, Texas to Hazel (Redding) Dopita and Fred Jackson Boyer, Dan was raised in Salina by his mother and his devoted stepfather, Wilbur Dopita.

An Eagle Scout, Boyer was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He was also a talented actor and musician, and he performed for years singing bass for The Living Today Gospel Quartet. He made a positive impact on the lives of many through his work as a professional Boy Scout, a high school English teacher, a University lecturer in literature, and in his many years practicing law. Boyer served as a Kansas District Court Judge from 1993 to 2007. After leaving the bench he joined the Boyer Law Offices to represent those who were indigent and faced with felony charges.

He was a graduate of Salina High School, Emporia State University, Washburn Law School, and a Distinguished Alumni of Kansas Wesleyan University, where he served as a Trustee from 2001-2010.

He is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Frazell) Boyer; his son, Brent Boyer (Kristin) of McPherson; his daughter, Anne Boyer and granddaughter, Hazel Carson, both of Kansas City; brother, Wilbur Dopita Jr. (Elizabeth); and his adopted shelter dog, Zoe.

A celebration of his life will be held at Ryan Mortuary at 10:30 Saturday, Feb. 3, with family receiving friends the hour prior.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salina Animal Shelter, or the Boy Scouts of America.
