Cheryl Lynn “Cheri” “Mimi” Eck

Cheryl Lynn “Cheri” “Mimi” Eck, 68, of Windom, KS, passed away at 5:47 p.m., Sunday, January 27th, while in the company of family members, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

Cheri was born in Topeka, Kansas on November 29, 1950, a daughter of the late Mary Lucile “Lucy” (Verschelden) and Florian “Rennie” Andrew Neider.

Cheri attended the Topeka and Chicago Heights public schools and graduated from Hayden High School, Topeka, Kansas. She attended Emporia State Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas and received her BA and Masters degree in Education from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church McPherson, KS.

Cheri was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family. She began teaching at Elmont grade school in Topeka, Westview elementary school in Olathe, Junior High in Dodge City, substitute taught at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in McPherson. After she retired from teaching she consulted at teacher inservices in math.

Cheri was a member of the Kansas Teachers Association, was on the Castle Township Board and served as secretary. Cheri enjoyed teaching, spending time with her friends, cooking, gardening both flower and vegetable, playing games and cards and belonged to 2 Bridge clubs, canning, crafting, sewing, tutoring math, and especially spending time with her family be it, immediate or extended family. Her highlight of the year was hosting Mimi and Papa Camp for the grandchildren.

Cheryl Lynn Neider was united in marriage to Steven Edward Eck on September 23, 1971. The young couple established their first home together in Manhattan, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of four children, Heather, Andy, Shane, and Nathan. They moved a lot and in 2002 the couple moved to Windom, Kansas.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of over 47 years, Steven Eck, of Windom, Kansas; her children, Heather Saville, and husband Greg, of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Andy Eck, and wife Shanna, of Uniontown, Kansas, Shane Eck and wife Stefanie, of McPherson, Kansas, and Nathan Eck and wife Haley, of Little River, Kansas; her siblings, Mark Neider, of Lakeview, Oregon, Carol Spencer and husband James, of Ramona, California, Clark Neider and wife Vilma, of Phoenix, Arizona, Renee Hunt and husband Terry, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Therese Folco, of San Francisco, California; her 11 grandchildren, Micaela Case (Jacob), Caleb Saville, Kylie Saville, Colt Eck, Bryce Eck, Trent Eck, Bailey Eck, Parker Eck, Jacob Eck, Alaina Eck, and Hayden Eck; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with Rosary at 7:15 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, McPherson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, McPherson, KS, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2nd, with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating.

Final resting place will be at the Windom Cemetery Windom, KS.
