Charles E. “Ed” Richey

Charles E. “Ed” Richey, age 96, of Concordia, passed away on Monday, March 04, 2019 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, KS. He was born on Nov. 10, 1922 in Buffalo, SD to George A. & Nellie J. (Horner) Richey.

To his family, he was Edward, but to his friends, he was Eddie or just plain Ed. He spent his early years in South Dakota. He moved to the Knobs community in Montana in 1927 and then to Miltonvale, KS in 1937 so his older siblings could attend Miltonvale Wesleyan College. Ed served in the US Army during WWII, in the 530 MP Company C., during the Army occupation in Nagoya & Kobe, Japan from 1945-1946. Ed married Patricia Prior on Dec. 7, 1952 in Clay Center, KS and she survives of the home.

Ed worked for Fairmont Foods from 1947 to 1960 and then worked for the US Postal service for 31 years from 1959 until his retirement in 1990.

Ed is survived by his wife, Patricia, Concordia; children, Virginia Wendland (Allen), Mesa, AZ.; Steven Richey, Udall, KS.; Donald Richey (Judy), Derby, KS.; Brenda Burgoon (Carl), Overbrook, KS.; sisters, Carol Wall, Hastings, NE.; Clarice Reed, Stamford, NE.; 10 grandchildren & 1 great grandchild and 1 on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alma Gibson & brothers, Ross, Scott, Gerald and Harold Richey.

Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Friday, March 8, 2019 at the Concordia Wesleyan Church, Concordia with Rev. David Redmond & Pastor Bob Burns officiating.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia with Military Honors by Am. Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 1-8 pm with family greeting friends from 7-8 pm all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
