Charles E. “Chuck” Vanderbilt passed away at his home in Brookville, Kansas, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born in Glendale, Kansas, on May 25, 1943, to Pauline Evelyn (Lambeth) and Dale Charles Vanderbilt. At around 4 years of age, Chuck and family moved to Ellsworth, Kansas, where he attended school.
On January 20, 1968, he married Angela Kay Tuxhorn in Salina; moving to Brookville in 1970. Chuck worked as a volkswagon mechanic for many years before working for Beech Aircraft from September, 1973, until retiring in April, 2024.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Kay; son Darrin (Tara) Vanderbilt, of Brookville; grandsons, Carson D. Vanderbilt of Manhattan, Kansas, and Spencer C. Vanderbilt of Overland Park, Kansas; sister, Rosalie Harris of Salina and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by brother, Jim Vanderbilt; sister, Phyllis Banta; mother, Pauline Watson and father, Dale Vanderbilt.
Chuck was most proud of his family and loved them dearly.
He was a mechanic at heart and could fix anything. Chuck began farming in the mid 70’s and raised beautiful wheat crops – some years. He enjoyed gardening and giving away vegetables to the Rescue Mission.
Cremation has been chosen. There will be no public service.
