Arleta Faye (Schurr) Bland

SALINA – Arleta Faye Bland, 99, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021.  She was born in Luray to Frank & Edith (Duell) Schurr.

Arleta retired from the postal service at both Luray and Waldo and later worked at the Luray cafeteria for USD 407.  She had a love for gardening, baking, canning and was active in her church and Senior Center in Luray.  She loved playing the piano and played for many church services, weddings and funerals.  She and Gordon enjoyed many years of square dancing, traveling and time spent socializing with friends.

Gordon, her husband of 78 years, preceded her in death in 2019.

Arleta is survived by her daughters, Linda Foran (Darrell) of Tucson, AZ, Celia Curl (Larry) of St. Louis, Carma Bland of Salina; grandchildren, Wes Foran of Los Angeles, Kevin Foran of Tucson, Aaron Curl of St. Louis, Adam Barkley of Salina, Heather Barkley of Bennington; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021.  A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. all at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.  A private inurnment will be held in Luray Cemetery.

Memorial may be made to the Luray United Methodist Church.
