UPDATE: First Impactful Winter Storm of the Season Friday Night Into Saturday

Winter is coming.

According to the National Weather Service, arctic air will invade the region on New Years Eve and Day. Rain will change over to a wintry mix and then snow late Friday night into Saturday.

As of now, north-central Kansas will be more likely to see a changeover to all snow than south-central Kansas Friday night into Saturday.

The greatest potential for accumulating snowfall will be generally across central and northern Kansas. Strong and gusty north winds will support blowing and drifting snow, poor visibilities, and hazardous travel conditions.

Travel impacts will be possible for much of the area. Stay tuned for updates to the forecast.

There remains some uncertainty, so the forecast could change.
