A man is recovering after being injured by explosives.

Wichita police were called to the area of George Washington Boulevard and Pawnee Street on Friday afternoon after a 37-year-old man suffered severe injuries after an object exploded in his hand.

The victim, who was taken to a hospital, found the item near Harry and Hillside streets and intended to throw it into water.

The item was believed to be an older firework.
