The death of a Kansas jail inmate is under investigation.

Authorities say Kenneth Wayne Smith was found in distress inside his cell at the Reno County Correctional Facility on Sunday evening. Life-saving procedures were unsuccessful, and Smith died.

The KBI is assisting in the investigation of Smith’s death.
