GPS Used as Bait in Scam

KSAL StaffOctober 28, 2016

An online link pulls a man away from Amazon and into a scammer’s web.

Saline County Undersheriff Roger Soldan tells KSAL News that a 52-year-old man who lives in northwest Saline County was shopping for a GPS unit for his combine on the web through Amazon.

Soldan says he clicked on a link that took him off site and started a string of emails regarding the purchase of the unit for $670.

The scammer convinced the man to purchase an Amazon gift card and send them the activation numbers to pay for the GPS.

The victim contacted authorities this week after his purchase never arrived.
