Cowboys Win 2nd Straight With 69-61 Victory Over Chapman

ABILENE: The Chapman Lady Irish picked up a much-needed win on Tuesday night and completed the season sweep of rival Abilene.  Chapman had lost 5 of their last 6 games entering Tuesday’s matchup.  The Lady Irish improved to 13-9, 4-8 with the victory and are in position to host an opening round Sub-State game with one game left on the schedule.  Thursday, Chapman will travel to Royal Valley to play Santa Fe Trail, in make-up games from the Royal Valley mid-season tournament.

Tuesday night, Chapman scored the first 11 points of the second half and took at 34-14 lead.  Abilene trimmed the lead down to 11 (41-30) with 3:41 to play in the game but the Lady Irish finished the game on a 12-0 run to have their biggest lead of the game at the final buzzer.  Chapman got a huge night from Junior, Jai Rogers, who finished with a game-high 17 points.  Senior, Abigail Gaston, totaled 11 points in the victory.

Abilene was led by Sophomore, Tessa Herrman, who finished with 10 points.  The Cowgirls fell to 4-17, 0-12 with the loss and will travel in the opening round of Sub-State on Tuesday, March 3.

Abilene Cowboys 69, Chapman 61

ABILENE: The Abilene Cowboys posted their second straight win Tuesday night and improved to 6-15, 4-8 with the victory.  Abilene, on Senior Night, got a huge performance from Senior, Levi Evans, who finished with a game-high 24 points.  The Cowboys also got 17 points from Sophomore, Kolt Becker.

Tuesday night, the Cowboys used an 11-0 run in the 3rd quarter to build a 21-point lead at 51-30 with 3:03 to play in the quarter.  Chapman fought back though and got to within 7 points with 15 seconds to go but ran out of time.  The Irish were led by Senior, Brecken Francis, who finished with a team-high 19 points.  The Irish also got double-figures from Junior, Bensen Smiley, who totaled 15.

Abilene will travel in the opening round of Sub-State on Wednesday, March 4.  Chapman fell to 1-21, 0-12 with the loss and will miss the post-season.
