WAMEGO: The Wamego Red Raiders advanced to the second round of the playoffs Thursday night with a 41-13 victory over Abilene.  It was the second win of the season over the Cowboys.  The Red Raiders won at Abilene 57-13 on September 11.

Friday night, Wamego recovered the opening kickoff and it was a sign of things to come.  The Red Raiders scored their first four possessions and six of their first seven drives.  Senior, Drew Hoffman filled in at quarterback and had a huge night as he ran for two scores and passed for two additional touchdowns.  Hoffman, unofficially, finished with 194 yards passing and 67 yards rushing.  Wamego also got two touchdown runs from Cash Threet, who is also a Senior.

Abilene did not score until the fourth quarter.  The Senior connection of Ethan Evans and Ryan McKinney connected for the second straight week on a 58 yard touchdown pass play.  The Cowboys would score on the very next drive on a 66 yard run from Sophomore Hudson Reiter.

Friday night in the loss, Abilene finished with 186 yards.  The Cowboys ended the season 1-8.  There is reason for optimism as the 7th, 8th and J.V. football teams all had winning records and the 8th grade were NCKL Champs.

Wamego improved to 7-1 with the victory.  The Red Raiders will host rival Rock Creek next Friday.  The Mustangs defeated Highland Park 78-0.  Wamego defeated Rock Creek 49-17 n September 18.
