Teen Arrested for Arson

Police arrested a Salina teen in connection to a spree of recent grass fires. Officers arrested 15-year-old David Eklund on 6 counts of arson and 1 count of aggravated assault.

Police say Eklund allegedly set numerous grass fires on February 13th and again on February 18th.

Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that Eklund also threatened to hurt an 11-year-old boy with a lighter and an aerosol bottle of cologne.

Sweeney says two 11-year-old boys were allegedly chased by him on February 18th after they saw Eklund light a fire in the alley behind the Taco Bell on East Iron.

Two patches of grass were lit at the Windsor Apartments on S. 2nd Street while another swath of grass was ignited in Oakdale Park. Police also found burn marks on some of the newspaper sculptures near the Oakdale footbridge.

Eklund was sent to the Juvenile Detention Center in Junction City.
